New Holland Super Hayliner 68 Manual
I see two exactly opposite pieces of info in what you have received so far. One info said have the windrow entering as far from the plunger as possible and the other info said have windrow entering as close as possible to the plunger. To correct for banana bales, I adjust the two tension springs (those big springs at the rear of the bale chamber) so they are not equal length on the rods. Tighten a little on the rod on the longer side of the bale and loosen a little on the rod on the shorter side of the bale.

Try a few bales and if needed keep repeating the process of tightening of the longer bale side and loosening on the shorter bale side. This has worked well for me. Banana Bales Q.

I noticed on my New Holland 68. The previous owner had added a 3rd set of feeder tines in the middle of the original 2 sets. I have used it like this and it seems to work fine.
My bales are nice and square, but don't know if that's why. Have you ever heard of this before? Yes, although not original, It is totally expectable to add tines. Gosh, if adding 6 sets of tines will help bale shape, by all means, add them. This is possibly the 8th wonder of the world. 2 identical model balers, and one will make a great bale and the other will produce banana shaped bales regardless of what you do.
However, banana shaped is more common for a 68 then square shaped. I am getting out of shaped bales with my NH 68. They look like a banana. What can I do to fix this?

If you are raking a good windrow the problem is the feeder tines. Most folks that are not familiar with baling will rake the windrow too small. Don't worry about getting the windrow too big. I bale good tight square bales with 68 & 69 Hayliners and Super Hayliners with twine and wire knotters both. I run my windrow up til it's almost as tall as the windrow pickup chamber and almost as wide.

Remember that you can always decrease your ground speed til it feeds right with too much windrow, but you can't hang on to the tractor and ride fast enough for a thin windrow to bale right. Standing at the back of the baler with the feeder tine door open you will see 3 sets of tines. The flex steel set on the very far right end are non adjustable. The other 2 sets of aluminum tines adjust opposite to the way you need to move hay into the chamber. In other words if the left side of bale is too short move the tines to the right a couple of inches at a time til you balance the bale.
If the right side of bale is too short move the tines to the left a couple of inches at a time till the bale balances. Also when baling run the baler so that the windrow hits the pick up as close to the plunger side as possible.
This helps the feeder load the hay in the chamber better. Hello I have the parts manual, and there is a triangular piece - a 'hay stop' - that seems like it is supposed to be near the inlet to the bale chamber. Like it hung from the underside of the twine chamber, with a little rod & spring. The rod & spring are still there, but the stop is gone. What did this thing do? That little triangle with the spring is important for getting straight bales, It doesn't cure everything but it helps allot, mine was bent when I bought it, I used it for several cuttings and had similar trouble getting straight bales, over the winter I removed and straightened it and now my bales are very straight, something to do with how the hay is distributed to the chamber. You'll have to look at another baler to see how it is set.
